Slaughterhouse 5 supposedly recounts some of the author's experiences as a POW held in Dresden, when that city was bombed during WWII, though I'm darned if I see how the book recounts anything at all. It is non-linear; that is its gimmick. Indeed, it has no beginning or end, in the conventional sense. Although it conveys a subjective moral position, it is not an allegory (or, if so, then it is too subtle for me).
The book is a genre of its own.
It is certainly well-enough written, so I suppose it qualifies as an entertainment, though only in the sense of a sports fixture or a sitcom: you might watch it to see what happens.
I, however, was left wondering, "why would anyone bother?"
Recommendation: Ok, to kill some time.
Look and Feel: My edition is the usual matt-finish paperback.
