Image and Text Credits

It seems futile to speak of crediting others' work and intellectual property in the context of the Internet – a medium where outfits like Napster not only pillage copyrighted materials wholesale, they actually have the gall to try and manufacture a virtue out of it! – but to give in and join the free-for-all would be to betray much of my own personal value system. Without getting obsessive about the whole thing, I have tried to credit any images I have used to build this site, and in most cases have even obtained permission to use the images from their legitimate owners.

(Web builders: Give it a try. You'll be pleasantly surprised how willing most others are to share their material. Even – or should I say especially – large public institutions are usually enthusiastic to help out if we'll only ask them first, instead of ripping off their stuff and hoping nobody'll complain.)

As for my own original images and essays, they are free to anyone provided only that you include a brief acknowledgment (and preferably a hyperlink) of the same type that I have used on this site.  (Gallery)
